I'll stick with what I said about 90% of HM being easy. Me saying 'Anything works in PvE' is an absolute, while absolutes don't exist. Everything has an exception. I didn't say either of you were bad players, I only criticized bringing three rangers.

No I didn't, but this thread is about vanquishing, and I've never PvPd so I wouldn't know.

I never mentioned Sab's build. Why use 'way' in everything? IWAY started this, but it's the only thing to use Will Avenge You! in the title. Sab Will Avenge You! ? No. Just Sab's build. If you'd like to further argue with me, go ahead, but I won't be reading it.

Barraging is the only viable way for a ranger to deal damage in HM and compete with anything else, but you can't really trust a hero to spam it and put splinter on himself.
Also, it's been gone over many times; ANYTHING works in PvE. Even mending on every character.
|
I disagree with the bold part. If you notice my avatar, you notice I am a Ranger as my primary character. I can do 100+ damage, in Hard Mode, to warriors and Paragons. And I ran R/Mo for my Vanquishing, as Rebirth was nice to have when taking heroes and hench.
Hench are hard to use, so make sure you know their skill set well, and take the right ones for the area you are Vanquishing. Heroes are more adjustable, and can be flagged, etc., so they make things easier. Know what is in the area, and take out the toughest groups/bosses first. This way you can kill the other stuff to work off DP if need be.
I won't say my style was 'best', but it worked well. Not everyone can play the same way, so it is a matter of knowing HOW you play, and choosing a team build that works with that play style. I used a lot of finesse, not a lot os power. Although I could dish out significant damage, I was more interested in keeping the enemy from deal damage to my teal, and healing their team. Arcane Conundrum on a Mesmer is fun for easy interrupts, and Frustration is even more fun. Hero MMs are godly with Death Nova, so use them everywhere there are corpses. Claude/Eve are not bad damage dealers, but they are awesome at keeping your casters with energy, take them unless you have a hero with Blood Ritual, or can/will use it yourself. Plan for 2 hours for every area. Not all will take that long, but some will, and not having to rush makes things more fun, and easier. Take a friend, as someone to talk with while Vanquishing makes things LOTS more enjoyable, if possible, take a full guild/alliance group.

Sab's build > Yours.
Party wide defensive skills, set on a Necro with infinite energy soul reaping = win.

Gyala Hatchery. Because i still do Boss runs to earn Luxon points and i soooo love it now.
8 bosses, 15 minutes, 3000 luxon points ftw!!!

Wow, is there a map or anything that shows this run? I've been trying to figure out a HM boss farm run that would net loads of lux points but haven't come close to anything like this. Care to share?

What was the hardest area for you to vanquish and why?
- Not really any, one frustrating but I'll write it down below.
What was the most frustrating area for you and why?
- Tahnakai Expo without the quest that makes it nobrainer. Holding aggro with those massive Jade groups is fun eh?
What area took you the most tries to complete?
- None took more than one.
What was your favorite area to vanquish and why?
- Propably Majesty's Rest, went there with my friend once we finished vanquing the area outside ToA and we didn't have anything proper in our build to counter Rotscale and his skills but I (Warr) bodyblocked him so that he stopped using skills and just ran back and forth in a little area. Was quite funny moment.
What was the easiest for you to vanquish (besides Bukdek or The Temple)?
- Any desolation area using full smiting team.
What was the toughest enemy (boss, species, or mob) for you to defeat?
- With Pain Inverter & superior mesmer skills ;D of my friend there weren't any. Bosses with spirit rift can be pain though if done with henchies.
What advice do you have for someone who is or is about to try and get Legendary?
- It isn't very challenging if you just bother adjust hero/teambuilds according to the enemies that lurks in the area you're about to vanq. Smite against Undead etc. Good luck.

FWIW I tried sabs build yesterday, and I'd say there's room for improvement. It's a minion-bomber build, which makes it powerful, and soul reaping means that once you've got it started the necros never run out of energy, but after vanquishing an area and doing a HM mission I went back to my old minion-bomber build, because I feel it has better synergy. Then again, I used my main char, my warrior, for testing the sab build, maybe it synergizes better if you're a necro.

If you don't like what is written here you can just STOP READING lol. How does it even compare to bullying IRL.

That is a dangerously clueless statement. Please read up on european internet law - that they're at best randomly enforced does not mean they do not exist.

Yeah.... I mean, sending people death threats against them and their family while using racial slurs shouldn't be illegal, right? (note, not that any of that is happening here, that's just an example of what was on the show).

I was talkin about USA law in general, it's full of some serious bullsh*t. Anyway it's not the place to discuss such things, it was a mistake to post it. Forgive me, I'm just bored at work and THAT is a dangerous state of mind.

Currently, I have Elonian Vanquisher, and am 9 zones away from Tyrian Vanquisher(The last nine are going to be easy).
What was the hardest area for you to vanquish and why?
Joko's Domain - by far. The fact that there are so many areas when you're unable to use wurms versus the undead. Cavaliers and Acolytes both have resurrection skills(Renew Life and Signet of Return). It's advised to do this with someone, but I completed this before Sab's 3 Necro Build came out. Make sure you have a ranger with Frozen Soil
What was the most frustrating area for you and why?
Joko's Domain - It took several, several tries. sometimes I was within 20 kills to winning before I realized it wasn't possible.
What area took you the most tries to complete?
Joko's Domain - haha, this is getting redundant :P
What was your favorite area to vanquish and why?
Shadow Passage - Because to took less than 3 minutes to do.
What was the easiest for you to vanquish (besides Bukdek or The Temple)?
Shadow Passage - A few Jade Brotherhood and some Afflicted, and you're done.
What was the toughest enemy (boss, species, or mob) for you to defeat?
Shekoss the Stony(Joko's Domain) - He had to be killed without use of wurms, as well as being surrounded by 2 Acolytes and at least one Cavalier.
What advice do you have for someone who is or is about to try and get Legendary?
If you can get a guild group to go with you, get them to help you out with Snake Dance, Dreadnought's, and Lornar's pass all in one shot. Having 8 people in Lornar's is far easier than 6, so start from Rankor.
Finish Joko's Domain in Elona first if you do Elonian Vanquisher. After that zone, everything else seems easy.

Ice Floe in Tyria. No specific clue why, but I think the team was feeling a bit off the day we did it. Tank wasn't getting healed enough, I was off with my dazing... it just wasn't working.

As above, because there was no reason why our builds weren't working besides our own ineptitude.

Deldrimor Bowl. Took a while to work out a composition to deal with the dual healers.

Mineral Springs. Did this on my Birthday, with in-game friends, with the titan quest active. The atmosphere in the team and on Ventrilo was fantastic - a huge thank you to everyone who came along. Alternatively, Diessa Lowlands, Flame Temple Corridor, Dragon's Gullet and the Breach - all done with a very special gentleman in a 7 hour marathon. Hard work, but fun and enjoyable.

North Kryta Province - I still had the Ascalon Settlement quest active - hello team of 10 people

Rotscale... like many people I think.

Try and get organised. Know where you've been and where you have to go along with their relative enemy count - that way you don't have to bail out of a vanquish (or squish as my guild have started calling them) because you haven't got enough time.
Don't leave home without some consumables but be sensible about their usage. If you're racking up DP, then there's probably a reason that no amount of powerstones will help you with. Consider restarting.
Find a player or two to buddy up with. I was lucky. I had my guild and alliance to help me. Others don't. If you can find one or two players starting out at the same time as you, who play roughly the same schedule, you'll fly though. Having that extra player and 3 heros instead of the henchies can be a life saver.
Know when to give up. Some days it just isn't happening. Give up, do something else (not another area - farming, guardian for example) and come back to it another day
Hope this helps a few people and good luck to all the future Legendary Vanquishers!

Just got Elonian Vanquisher lastnight, and that's my only continent so far. Have also vanquished most of eotn, save for Charr areas and parts of Norn.
What was the hardest area for you to vanquish and why?
- Joko's Domain, before going in with a very specific set of heroes. Zoomed through without problems with 2 Matra of Inscriptions smiters, 1 sav heat, bha ranger, SS, MM (modified first version of Sabs, without the healy crap), and two WoH-Prot monks. The undead just kinda kill themselves for you.
What was the most frustrating area for you and why?
- Hidden City in Vabbi, only because of the ruby djinn pop-ups. Arbor Bay in eotn, because it was so damn huge and there are so many bleepin' enemies.
What area took you the most tries to complete?
- Joko's had to be done twice, only because the first hero set up gave me fits.
What was your favorite area to vanquish and why?
- All of Vabbi was fun.
What was the easiest for you to vanquish?
- Istan areas.
What was the toughest enemy (boss, species, or mob) for you to defeat?
- Dinos in eotn. Most bosses go down like a sack of turds with PI and minions, but the dinos are a PITFA.
What advice do you have for someone who is or is about to try and get Legendary?
- Don't save the 'tougher' stuff for later. Get some of the harder crap out of the way first. Don't be rigid, use builds and heroes that work for each area you're in. Consumables can help drag your butts from the fire.

Thats basically what we used to, but according to some people our build (and yours too apparantly) suck.
Gold helmets all around specify differently.
The only problem we had in Cantha were the Jade Brotherhood guys. All it took was for a couple of those warriors to break through into the backline and it was clobberin time.

almost done this:
What was the hardest area for you to vanquish and why?
So far I think Dreadnough's Drift. I hated summit.
What was the most frustrating area for you and why?
Maguuma jungle. WIND RIDERSSSSS
What area took you the most tries to complete?
Dreadnough's Drift again. Two tries
What was your favorite area to vanquish and why?
I think i have to answer ascalon. So easy with sabs.
What was the easiest for you to vanquish?
Shadow passage.
What was the toughest enemy (boss, species, or mob) for you to defeat?
Wind riders in maguuma jungle. Most pain in ass
What advice do you have for someone who is or is about to try and get Legendary?
Don't go everything alone if you're stuck on somewhere. Even one friend with good heroes is enough for ANY area. Consumeables help alot on whatever you do. Do harder areas first so it's going easier way. BEWARE AOE DAMAGE AND GET [skill]protective spirit[/skill]. It's gonna save your ass more than you think
